It covers about 3,600 m² (4,300 sq yd) and it was made in the 1930s by some local villagers in northeastern Germany, who planted larch trees in the middle of a pine forest. It is visible only in spring or autumn, when the pine-needles change their color. The reason for the planting is still unclear.
