Hole in torso costume

Youtuber onemeeeliondollars uses two iPads to create a costume that makes him look like he has a hole in his torso.
A description of a relatively simple Halloween costume using 2 iPad2s to make it look like you have a huge hole in your torso. You'll also need a MiFi hotspot (if you don't have a WiFi network available where you want to use the costume). Basically you start a FaceTime chat between the iPads and then tape one to your front and one to your back. Add a little red paint and you're good to go.

State trooper arrests police officer

From the Miami Herald:
A Miami Police officer was arrested at gunpoint and charged with reckless driving after allegedly leading the Florida Highway Patrol on a seven-minute chase in his squad car at speeds that reached 120 mph on Florida’s Turnpike in Broward County earlier this month.

A highway patrol trooper pulled out her gun to arrest Fausto López, 35, after he reportedly ignored repeated warnings to stop.

Watts ordered López to step out of the vehicle, handcuffed and detained him. As he was getting out of his vehicle, López explained to Watts that he was driving so quickly because he was late to his off-duty job, which started at 7 a.m.

López could not be reached for comment. As of Saturday, he was still assigned to regular duty at the Miami Police Department, said Cmdr. Delrish Moss, "because at this point it’s a traffic offense."

López was released, but was criminally charged with reckless driving, which is considered a second-degree misdemeanor.

Police brutality of the day: cops shoot calf

(Warning: video is pretty disturbing)

A YouTube video of Gatineau police opening fire on an escaped cow has raised questions about their treatment of the animals.

Gatineau police said two cows were headed for the slaughterhouse when they broke free from a truck Thursday, leaving them no choice but to shoot them dead.

"The cops at one point have to decide if it's threatening for the population, is it too dangerous?" said Const. Pierre Lanthier of the Gatineau police. "They decided at one point they had no choice but to shoot the animal."

Gatineau police said they had the owner's permission to shoot the animals.

Slumdog Millionaire IRL

From Associated Press:
A poor government clerk from a desolate region of eastern India has become the first person ever to win $1 million on an Indian game show.

Sushil Kumar's staggering win on the popular Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" has transformed him into a role model for millions of aspiring youth yearning to escape from lives of poverty and find a role in India's burgeoning economy.

Kumar and his wife of four months wept when Indian movie legend Amitabh Bachchan, the show's host, handed them a check for 50 million rupees (just over $1 million) after the contestant gave all the right answers.

Before Kumar went on the program, which was taped Tuesday and will air next week, he earned $120 a month as a government office worker and supplemented his income by working as a private tutor in the small town of Motihari in the eastern state of Bihar.

Broken thing of the day: Steven Tyler's face

Steven Tyler broken face

Steven Tyler had a little mishap last weekend. After slipping and having a nasty fall while showering in his hotel room in Asuncion, Paraguay, he was rushed to the hospital where he underwent treatment for a busted lip, cut forehead and two broken front teeth. In a phone interview for The Today Show he told Matt Lauer it had nothing to do with substance abuse.
"Frankly, I just passed out," he said. "I was in the shower and I got nauseous and I started to get sick and I just fell on my face. I just passed out and woke up with the water on," Tyler continued, joking that he fainted due to Montezuma's Revenge.

Genius idea: man builds smartphone into prosthetic arm

From The Telegraph:
A British man has become the world's first ever patient to have a smartphone docking system built into his prosthetic arm.

Trevor Prideaux, who was born without his left arm, used to have to balance the smartphone on his prosthetic arm or put it on a flat surface to use it.

But now Mr Prideaux, 50, can call and text his loved ones without moving the mobile, which is embedded into his fibreglass and laminate limb.

The catering manager sought help from medical experts and communications chiefs at Nokia to build the special prosthethic.

They carefully carved a phone shaped fibrecast cradle into the skin-coloured prototype, allowing his Nokia C7 to sit inside it.

Vodka killed Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse drinking

From Associated Press:
Amy Winehouse drank herself to death. That was the ruling of a coroner's inquest into the death of the Grammy-winning soul singer, who died with empty vodka bottles in her room and lethal amounts of alcohol in her blood - more than five times the British drunk driving limit.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway gave a verdict of "death by misadventure," saying Wednesday the singer suffered accidental alcohol poisoning when she resumed drinking after weeks of abstinence.

"The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels (of alcohol) was her sudden and unexpected death," Greenaway said.

The 27-year-old Winehouse had fought a very public battle with drug and alcohol abuse for years, and there had been much speculation that she died from a drug overdose. But a pathologist said the small amount of a drug prescribed to help her cope with the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal had nothing to do with her death.

Book trailer: John Hodgman's "That is All"

John Hodgman, known by most of you primarily as the PC Guy opposite Justin Long, is launching the final book of his 'Complete World Knowledge' trilogy, That is All, and his doing it with style.
In 2005, Dutton published The Areas of My Expertise, a handy little book of Complete World Knowledge, marked by the distinction that all of the fascinating trivia and amazing true facts were completely made up by its author, John Hodgman. At the time, Hodgman was merely a former literary agent and occasional scribbler of fake trivia. In short: a nobody.

But during an interview on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, an incredible transformation occurred. He became a famous minor television personality. You may ask: During his whirlwind tornado ride through the high ether of minor fame and outrageous fortune, did John Hodgman forget how to write books of fake trivia? The answer is: Yes. Briefly. But soon, he remembered!

And so he returned, crashing his Kansas farmhouse down upon the wicked witch of ignorance with More Information Than You Require, a New York Times bestseller containing even more mesmerizing and essential fake trivia, including seven hundred mole-man names (and their occupations).

And now, John Hodgman completes his vision with That Is All, the last book in a trilogy of Complete World Knowledge. Like its predecessors, That Is All compiles incredibly handy made-up facts into brief articles, overlong lists, and beguiling narratives on new and familiar themes. It picks up exactly where More Information left off-specifically, at page 596-and finally completes COMPLETE WORLD KNOWLEDGE.
