Jet-Powered Merry-Go-Round

Brooklyn-based arts collective The Madagascar Institute had tested their home-built jet-powered merry-go-round—they'd just never tested it with people on it. So PM's Seth Porges volunteered his life and limb (a nearby warning sign warned that it "Could Kill You") to be the first human ever to take a jet-powered ride on this steam punk-inspired machine

Hitching a ride?

Pictured: The tiny kingbird that took a piggyback on a predatory hawk and lived to tell the tale:
This is the moment a tiny kingbird decided it was time to see off a potential predator circling his home.

In a bold move, the aggressive little bird launched itself at the fearsome red-tailed hawk and sank its talons into the larger bird's back.

The feisty kingbird attacked the hawk as it ventured too near its nest, dive-bombing it relentlessly, before jumping on for a piggyback, clinging to it as it soared through the air.

It enjoyed the ride for a few seconds before resuming the attack, pecking the hawk's head in fury.

WTF creature from Zimbabwe

It's the human-goat hybrid! Mysterious creature WAS part-man, part-goat say officials:
Experts are puzzled by the reports and photos published in African newspapers.

The creature, which died just a few hours after birth, had a huge head and a face that resembled a severely disfigured baby. The neck and shoulders were much like a a small human, but it had goat legs and a tail.

Residents of the village of Maboleni, where a goat gave birth to the creature, burnt the corspe in an attempt to rid the town of a curse.

But local Governor Jason Machaya (56) is sure, that it was a half-man, half-goat hybrid which was the result of bestiality: "A grown man was responsible for this."

Doctors, however say that it would be a biological impossibility.

Dwarves make their own village

They want to get away from regular-sized people. Chinese dwarves set up their own village:
A community of dwarves has set up its own village to escape discrimination from normal sized people.

Everyone in the mountain commune in Kunming, southern China, must be under 4ft 3ins tall - and they run their own police force and fire brigade from their 120 residents.

'As small people we are used to being pushed around and exploited by big people. But here there aren't any big people and everything we do is for us,' said spokesman Fu Tien.

A picture of a mule blowing up, 1881

Man, They Just Don't Make Tech Demos Like They Used To:
In 1878 Charles Bennett, a gentleman, discovered a new gelatin dry plate emulsion, which allowed for photos to be exposed almost instantaneously. So how did he show off his amazing new technology? By blowing up a mule, naturally.

UFO filmed in China

Chinese scientists 'filmed UFO for 40 minutes':
Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing are reported to have confirmed that they filmed a UFO during the eclipse for 40 minutes. They say that they will spend the next 12 months studying the footage before drawing any conclusions.

The incident follows a series of UFO sightings in China which culminated in an object being captured on film by students in Deqing. The footage, which was featured on Chinese television, appears to show the object repeatedly changing shape after initially appearing as a glowing blue sphere.

Sneezing fetish lands man in jail

Gesundheit? Sneezing fetish lands man in jail:
Officers were called to Commerce Hardware and Feed on Monday regarding a customer that blew a white powdery substance in an employees face. The employee was checking the suspect out and when he handed his check to her, he blew the substance in her face. She turned away to process his check and when she turned back to him, he did it a second time, waited in the store for a few minutes then left.

Crews said Investigator Steve Scott was able to identify the suspect and subsequently interview him regarding this offense. The substance in the incident turned out to be white pepper.

“In my entire career I’ve never heard of anything like this,” Crews said. “I’ve checked with my detectives and they haven’t heard of anything like it either.”

“We found out he’s got a problem,” Crews said. “He becomes aroused by females sneezing.”

Mule vs. cougar

A couple living in Montana were outside with a mule and 2 dogs. He with a gun (he is a hunter), she with a camera. A cougar that was nearby decided that he would have a dog for dinner.

The hunter saw the animal so he wanted to shoot in the air to scare the beast but did not even have timeto do that - the cougar was already approaching a dog. Here is the incredible part of the story: the mule snatched the cougar up by the tail and started whirling him around banging its head on the ground repeatedly. Then the mule dropped it on the ground, stomped on it and held it by the throat. The mule got down on his knees and began to bite the creature a dozen times. The poor animal could not do anything...

The hunter did not even need to shoot and the woman was able to take these 4 exceptional pictures.

She taught her daughter how to be a dominatrix

And she went to jail. Prison ordered for two who offered girl for sadomasochistic sex:
They made her a dominatrix and schooled her in the ways of violent sex when she was only 12.

By the time she reached 14, they had billed her as “Mistress Alisha,” and they offered her online for two years to service the sadomasochistic fantasies of anyone willing to pay.

But on Thursday, it was the turn of the girl’s mother and the man she formerly lived with in Blue Springs to pay for the years of victimization they forced the girl to endure so they could make money.

Frog swallows light bulb

Pictured: The glowing frog who wanted a light snack and swallowed a Christmas bulb:
In an ultimate case of crossed wires, a tiny tree frog’s bug-catching antics left it with a bellyful of bulb. The Cuban tree frog took on an unnatural glow when it swallowed an entire fairy light in a botched bid to catch an insect. The unlucky amphibian had been hunting in the back garden of wildlife photographer James Snyder when it made a bid for the snack.

Urban fox piercing

It's understandable when you do it to yourself, but this is just completely wrong. Urban Fox Hunting: The Photo Evidence:
Campaigners have released a picture of a cub discovered with a chain threaded through one of its hind legs.

A hole had been drilled through the animal's flesh after it was caught by poachers in south east London.

It is feared that fighting dogs are being let loose on the trapped animals either for "fun" or as practice for illegal fights.

The animal in the picture above - named Jingles by rescuers - managed to chew through the leather strapping on the chain and escape its captor.

Baby vs. arrow

Here's something you don't see evry day. Miracle tot takes a bow:
Miracle tot Tian Tian is taking a bow after surviving a direct hit with an arrow as she played in the garden of her family home.

The two-year-old toddler was struck in the back when neighbour Lian Chen let fly with a longbow from a bedroom window trying to scare off a wildcat.

Medics removed the arrow but now have to wait to see if the iron arrowhead caused any damage to her spinal cord.
